An Exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar, the Netherlands, including an Iziko Michaelis painting, Ceasar van Everdingen, Trompe l'Oeil of Adonis, painted in 1666.
The painting on the right is the Iziko Michaelis painting on loan to the Stedelijk Museum Alkmaar, the Netherlands. It is by Cesar van Everdingen, and the title is Trompe l'Oeil of Adonis, painted in 1666. It is part of a pendant, Trompe l'Oeil Bust of Venus, which is owned by the Mauritshuis in the Haag, The Netherlands.
The exhibition was curated by Curator, Christi Klinkert and the title of the exhibition is called ‘a flattering brush’ - Caesar van Everdingen (1616/1617-1678). The date are 24 September 2016 - 22 January 2017 and a fine catalogue was also done at this time which include a full page illustation of our Iziko Michaelis painting Adonis. It is very special that the paintings have been reunited for the 3rd time since they were painted in 1666.
Special thanks to the conservator at the Maritshuis, Ariane van Suchtelen and her colleague Boy van den Hoorn, which kindly gave their fame details, so we could arrange to have a similar frame made up in Cape Town, so they would hang together well as a pendant. These frames are historically correct with the period.
